Cannabinoids in Cannabis Oil May Protect Brain From Stress-Related Impairments

brain stress protect

Chemicals in marijuana may reduce the impact of stress-related disorders on the brain, according to recent conclusions out of Israel.

Suffering from stress will impair learning and memory skills. But researchers at the University of Haifa, led by Irit Akirav, PhD of the Department of Psychology, were able to diminish many of these impairments using synthetic cannabinoids in rat models of chronic stress.

Two of their studies were recently printed within the journal Neuropsychopharmacology.

In the initial study, rats were exposed to chronic restraint stress daily for 2 weeks, with the synthetic cannabinoid WIN55,212-2 being given to one group of animals at the end of every day. Cannabinoid treatment was able to scale back the negative influence of stress on immediate memory and long synergism – vital learning and memory mechanism of the brain.

The second research, published just last week, found cannabinoid prescription effective in reversing impairments from stress-related depression. Using WIN55,212-2 again, the specialists observed a reduction in memory impairments as well as various symptoms of depression (including behavioural and weight changes) in a rat model of chronic mild stress.

In each sets of experiments, the CB1 pathway seemed to be responsible for the protection. CB1 receptors ar found in high concentrations within the brain and also are activated by psychoactive substance in marijuana.

While more investigation is needed, Dr Akirav and her colleagues conclude that cannabinoid activity could be a “novel approach to the treatment of cognitive deficits” that accompany “stress-related depression” and other “stress-related neuropsychiatric disorders.”

The investigations were printed before print and received funding from the Israel Science Foundation and therefore the Hope for Depression analysis Foundation

Why Medical Marijuana and why now?

More states are passing laws that allow people to use medical marijuana. So what does it treat, and who can and should use it? Pain is the main reason people ask for a prescription, says Barth Wilsey, MD, a pain medicine specialist at the University of California Davis Medical Center. It could be from headaches, a disease like cancer, or a long-term condition, like glaucoma or nerve pain. If you live in a state where medical marijuana is legal and your doctor thinks it would help, you’ll get a “marijuana card.” You will be put on a list that allows you to buy marijuana from an authorized seller, called a dispensary. Doctors also may prescribe medical marijuana to treat: Muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis Nausea from cancer chemotherapy Poor appetite and weight loss caused by chronic illness, such as HIV, or nerve pain Seizure disorders Crohn's disease The FDA has also approved THC, a key ingredient in marijuana, to treat nausea and improve appetite. It's ava...

The Extraordinary Properties of Rick Simpson Oil

In 2008, RSO creator Rick Simpson revealed a documentary entitled Run From The Cure, which recounted his experience and discovery of how cannabis could treat cancer with concentrated cannabis oil (aka RSO). Since then, many Cannabis oil patients have used the oil to treat cancer. It is all anecdotes, and anecdotes are not science, but due to the hostility of the U.S. government by making it illegal to do research on cannabis, a scientific inquiry into the purported cancer curative potential of cannabis has never been undertaken. Nevertheless, there is a peer-reviewed scientific study recommending that cannabis be an effective anti-cancer agent. Published in the Journal of Cannabis Research 2004 by Dr Manuel Guzman of the Complutense University of Madrid in Spain, he found that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) inhibited the development of brain tumours in laboratory mice. Additionally, in 2006, Dr. Donald Tashkin from the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los...

Vegetarian Diet and It's Effects

This type of cancer is normally affects women as the name suggests,it attacks the female reproductive tract specifically the cervix which is the neck of the  uterus;the bridge between the birth canal (vagina) and the uterus. Studies have linked cervical cancer to HPV(Human papilloma virus), a sexually disease infection. The HPV is normally transmitted from men who are largely unaffected(they are carriers)during unprotected sex. The disease takes time to grow and when it happens, the cells of the cervix grow abnormally and invade other tissues and organs of the body. When it is invasive, the disease affects the deeper tissue of the body like the vagina, lungs, liver, bladder and rectum. Cervical cancer is slow in progression at its early stages and as such,it is possible to prevent if detected early and treatment commenced immediately . A majority of the patients diagnosed with precancerous changes in the cervix are in their 20s and 30s while the average age of women when they are d...
